When Life Changes, Your Insurance Should Too: 6 Questions to Ask Before the Year Ends

November is full of to-do lists. From holiday prep to year-end planning, it’s a time when a lot is happening behind the scenes.

And while insurance might not be the first thing on your mind (we get it), now is actually the perfect time to pause and ask: “Does my coverage still fit my life?”

Here are six quick questions we encourage our clients to ask before the year wraps up:

1. Did anything big change this year?

Think moves, remodels, new drivers, new businesses, kids moving out, retirement planning, or even just buying something valuable. If anything changes, your coverage may need to change as well.

2. Do I know what my deductible is—and could I afford it tomorrow?

If you haven’t looked at your deductible since you first set up your policy, it might be time. A too-high deductible can sting in an emergency, and a too-low one could be raising your premiums unnecessarily.

3. Have I reviewed my liability coverage lately?

We talk about this one a lot because it matters. Liability coverage protects you from the unexpected, and state minimums usually don’t go very far. November is a good time to review your limits and make sure they actually reflect your lifestyle and assets.

4. Is my home protected from seasonal risks?

In the Gorge, fall and winter bring wind, rain, ice, and the occasional power outage. We recommend checking your homeowners policy for smoke damage, power surge coverage, sump pump failure, and more.

5. Is everything valuable scheduled on my policy?

Jewelry. Art. Tech. Tools. These items aren’t always fully covered under your standard policy limits. If you've made any big purchases this year, let's talk about scheduling them properly so there are no surprises later.

6. When’s the last time I talked to my agent?

Honestly? This might be the most important one. A five-minute check-in can clear up a lot of uncertainty and give you peace of mind heading into the new year.
